Andrew Spence

Partner

Andrew is a senior litigation counsel with more than two decades of experience representing clients in complex civil disputes. He has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and acts for clients in corporate and commercial litigation, insurance matters, employment disputes, debtor and creditor claims, security enforcement, credit collections, and construction disputes.

Called to the British Columbia Bar in 2001, Andrew has practiced exclusively as litigation counsel throughout his legal career. Over more than two decades, he has acted in a wide range of disputes involving businesses, insurers, employers, lenders, creditors, contractors, and individuals. His practice is grounded in practical judgment, disciplined case strategy, and clear advocacy. He focuses on identifying the issues that actually matter, separating strong points from weak ones, and developing a litigation plan that reflects both the legal merits and the client’s business objectives.

Andrew’s approach is direct and strategic. He works with clients to assess the evidence, understand the risks, and determine whether a matter should be defended, advanced, negotiated, settled, or taken to hearing or trial. He recognizes that litigation carries cost, risk, disruption, and uncertainty. His advice is therefore focused on achieving outcomes that are commercially sensible, legally sound, and proportionate to what is truly at stake.

Before becoming a lawyer, Andrew worked as a systems analyst designing database applications. That technical background gives him a strong understanding of business systems, records, data, and technology driven evidence. It also allows him to approach litigation with an organized, analytical, and efficiency focused mindset.

Andrew uses technology where it improves the conduct of litigation, including document management, evidence organization, legal research, and case preparation. His approach combines traditional courtroom advocacy with modern tools that support better preparation, clearer analysis, and more efficient client service.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours, obtained in 1997, a Diploma in Computer Information Systems Technology, completed in 1988, and an LLB from the University of Alberta, earned in 2000.
